UPLAC Bi-monthly Meeting: The monthly UPLAC bi-meeting of Sutipara Union Parishad was held on the date 30.03.2022 Mr. Md. Rezaul Karim, the eligible chairman of Sutipara Union Parishad, said the government has taken a special initiative for the poor and helpless people especially those who cannot sue due to lack of money. In the current quarter, the candidate from Sutipara Union has taken various allegations to the District Legal Aid Office Dhaka. The District Legal Aid Officer gives them various legal aid advice and gives ADR dates to those who need to be arbitrated. As members of the Union Legal Aid Committee, our job will be to serve the clients who come to the Union Council as well as to refer to the District Legal Aid Office who needs it. This legal service needs to raise more awareness at the village level about the Legal Aid issue so that we can provide more legal services to the needy people.
Courtyard meeting: At the courtyard meeting in Subhada union under Keraniganj Upazila on held of the date 27.03.2022 Ms. Rashida Begum said my daughter got married in Rahmatganj village of Jinjira union. Three years after the marriage, her husband remarried another woman. My daughter was physically and mentally abused and threatened to kill her. At one point I brought my daughter to me. Today I learned about legal aid issues and how the government provides legal aid support to the poor people. I want to get legal aid through you through the district legal aid office.
Public Hearing: At the held on the date 28.03.2022 Mr. Md. Shamsul Haque (49) Churain union under Nawabganj Upazila said that it's been 20 years since my father died but my cousins have occupied our land. For almost 14 years, we have been working with cousins and local dignitaries to settle the land for a fair settlement. But so far I have not been able to settle the land properly. My cousins are threatening me in various ways. When I told the local chairman about our land, the chairman said, I saw their land and the documents. The issues are very complicated. I told them to go to the land office and file a case. Then Senior Assistant Judge Md. Rakibul Hasan said you have filed a case in the land office for your land? Shamsul Haque says, I did not sue at the Ac-land office. I brought my papers to show you. I would greatly benefit if you would help me through this meeting today. Mr. Rakibul Hasan Sir, District Legal Aid Officer said that you can come to the Dhaka Legal Aid Office to file a case for your land or to come up with an ADR, but before coming there is a form of Union Parishad which will require the recommendation of the local chairman. But you have to remember that you have to pay the court fee for the cost of the case. The court fee is not paid by the government but the cost of the case will be paid by the government to the Legal Aid Panel Lawyers.
