Aparajeyo’s Award giving Ceremony 2013 for Journalists
‘Government institutions have their own policy and programmes. Non government organizations also have programmes for supporting the issue from their end. There is law in the country. But violence against children has not been stopped. In this situation, media can take a positive role to eradicate the problem through responsive mass people’- Honorable guests of an award giving ceremony said these wards in their speech on Thursday, 20 June 2013. Aparajeyo-Bangladesh (AB) organised this ceremony for the media persons for their contribution towards children and young women.
‘Early marriage and gender based violence against girls and young women are common phenomenon in our society. Girls & Young women are more victimized than adults. If we want to reduce this, we must work together and media must have taken a vital role on the issue’- Guests urges media people.
Wahida Banu, Executive Director of Aparajeyo-Bangladesh (AB), Mashhuda Khatun, Executive Director of Nari Uddog Kendra, Mohammad Masud, Manager Girl Power Project of Plan Bangladesh, M.A. Mannan, Manager, Dhaka Project Office of Plan Bangladesh and Aminul Islam, Programme Manager-Child Protection of Aparajeyo-Bangladesh (AB) were present in the ceremony.
Aparajeyo-Bangladesh (AB) organized this event for the first time with the financial support of Plan Bangladesh. Mansura Hossain of Daily Prothom Alo was received the 1st prize, while Yasmin Pew of Daily Ittefaq was received 2nd prize and Shebika Debnath of Daily was received the 3rd prize to their contribution to Child Protection and Development journalism.
It is noted here that all three female journalists was succeed to receive ‘Aparajeyo Award- 2013’ in their own arena. Earlier articles, features, documentaries were asked to submit who were participated in the Aparajeyo’s Girl Power Project (GPP) organised workshops for the journalists. A total of 11 such writings and documentaries were received from therm. After scrutiny by a renowned jury board, these three writings of the journalists were selected for the award. Ms. Mashhuda Khatun, Executive Director of Nari Uddog Kendra, Mr. AHM Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BNNRC and Mr. Mahabubul Hoque, Manager of Media, BRAC was in the jury board. News of this ceremony was widely circulated in ‘daily Prothom Alo, ‘Daily Ittefaq’, and in ‘Daily Sangbad’.
The event was successfully completed as the journalist were attended in the workshops which was organized for local journalists and was involved them to contribute for upholding the situation of girls & young women of the GPP working area. Reports, features and articles were published and finally awarded was distributed. These journalists will continue their efforts for the girls and young women.
